Solo exhibition, Western Plains Cultural Centre, 2020, Dubbo, Australia
In his daily art practice Leo seeks to be deeply present to nature so as to venture to realms beyond humanity and even the physical, experiencing pure energy and being close to the essence of existence. Here Leo uses different materials and colours, resonating in harmony with our bodily physicality, to give form to that which is usually invisible.
participatory installation with storytelling, Cementa19 Arts Festival, 2019, Kandos, Australia.
This installation traces Leo’s shamanic journeys through Combimelong mountain and invites the audience to experience its vibrations and their own sensory and emotional shift. Leo performs in the space telling the story of Penny, a cattle dog who became his Zen master and animal spirit guide, and the outcomes of her teaching. This work is dedicated to the memory of Penny.
Birds Hut Projects, Kelgoola, Australia, 2018.
Using principles of Zen Leo places objects where they will shift and enhance the viewer’s perception of what was already there, prompting us to “look beyond reality into the essence of reality” (Andrew Frost).
The result is an augmented and somewhat spiritual experience of a place.
Iain Dawson Gallery, Sydney, Australia, 2009
Mad Dionysos. Through the painting process Leo explores matter, in the material quality of the paintings and energy; in this case heightened sexual energy. Several viewers over time have expressed the experience of sexual arousal in the presence of his abstract works and one actually likes to contemplate one of his paintings (which she owns) during the sex act.
Tin Sheds Gallery, Sydney, Australia, 2009. Curated group show with Tom Doherty, Floria Tosca and Charlie Sheard.
